It's a grocery store receipt. The bill of $141.78 was paid for using food stamps. There are 18 items on the reciept. They include $33.95 of diet mountain dew, 6 cold water lobsters, and 2 porterhouse steaks.

This is exactly why we need a capitalist extremist in the WH. No more food stamps, no more public housing and no more Dept of Education, No more more school lunch. Just give the poor a lump sum and let them manage their own money like the rest of us have to use. It is time to stop making the people wards of the state.

Food stamps are a major problem, as are school lunches. Part of the problem with school lunch is that most of the employees in the schools don't check people's REAL tax forms to see whether they actually qualify or not. One of my sister-in-laws works as a high school secretary. She tells people they must bring in the correct tax forms or she can't okay the kids for school lunch. Many of the parents are upset that she actually tries to get them to prove that they qualify instead of just accepting their word for it. She says that most of the schools don't require any kind of proof. That was reassuring to hear.

There are people on food stamps who eat better than those paying for it. My grandma told of a kid in their town--son of a farmer with 10 children. He worked at the local grocery store as a bag boy to earn some extra money. He was astounded at the yummy things people on food stamps bought--items that never made it to his tax-paying family's table.

I will never forget someone telling me, "You don't know what it's like to do without," when comparing my situation with a woman whose mother was the single parent of two daughters. Excuse me, I am the middle of NINE CHILDREN. I certainly do know what it's like to do without fancy things! Just because I had two loving parents doesn't mean I grew up in the lap of luxury--duh!! Society should stop labeling people as "victims." Some single parents are actually better off financially than some married ones. It is unbelievable how "compassion" is so compelling that we reward bad behavior. Compassion without principle is not compassionate.

I am stepping down from my soap box now!

I believe you, RW. Sad when people who aren't working eat better than those who are, isn't it?
