The Field Poll: Romney with comfortable lead in California

Sarah Palin 8%
Newt Gingrich 7%
Ron Paul 7%
Michele Bachmann 6%
Herman Cain 4%
Jon Huntsman 2%
Rick Santorum 1%

Undecided 14%

When Republicans choosing Palin as their first choice are allocated to the other candidates based on their second choice preferences, the distributions are:

Mitt Romney 30%
Rick Perry 22%
Ron Paul 7%
Michele Bachman 7%

Jon Huntsman 3%
Rick Santorum 1%

Undecided 16%

The findings in this report are based on a Field Poll survey completed September 1-12, 2011 among a random sample of 1,001 registered voters in California, including 333 registered Republicans. The maximum sampling error estimates for results based on the overall registered voters sample is +/- 3.2 percentage points, registered Republicans have a maximum sampling error of +/- 5.6 percentage points.
