BATTLEGROUND POLL CURIOSITIES

This mornings BattleGround poll has Perry at 36 % and Romney at 17 %. Not very comforting data until you drill down a little in to the poll. Then, the poll gets really curious and a bit,( more than a bit ) compromised. Questions 25 -32 asks voters to indicate who they definitely would vote for, might vote for or definitely would NOT vote for.

A truly curious poll. For instance, question 25 - 32 asks voters who they defintely would or might support in 2012 and who they definitely would NOT support. Results ?

..................Definitely Would.......Might.....TOTAL +.........Definitely Would
Not.............................Net + / -

Romney...............9 %.................41 %...........50 %..................43 %.............................. + 7 %
Perry...................11 %................ 33 %..........44 %..................45 %............................... - 1 %
Bachmann...........7 %.................28 %...........35 %..................58 %.............................. - 23 %
Cain.....................5 %.................22 %...........27 %..................46 %.............................. - 19 %
Paul.....................8 %.................29 %...........37 %..................55 %.............................. - 18 %

In this question, the very same voters have Romney ahead of Perry by 6-8 %
As I said, curious. Perhaps I am missing something in this somewhat confusing result.

THis tells me we have a lot more work to do to get the word out on Perry and what a scary character he is.

It's kinda of hard to do that when Perry is skipping forums and debates. Can you imagine him in yesterday's forum? He would have easily looked the worst.

I am dubious that the word will get out before Perry secures the nomination. Fox and talk radio will never, never reveal Perry's terrible record. The other news outlets may talk about them, but the average republican thinks that those news agencies only tell lies, so they won't believe anyway. And Perry will continue to dodge debates as long as he can get away with it. Plus his Super Pac has secured $55 million for ads. I expect those ads to be attack ads against the other candidates. As long as Perry and Co. can keep the base fired up about the bogeyman, Romney, he can hide from his own record. Finally, Perry is playing up to the evangelicals for all he's worth. There's no way that they, in any significant numbers, will back a Mormon over one of their own. So they will work hard in their congregations, home school networks and such to spin Perry's record and to distort Romney's record.

I don't think Perry's Super Pac's " HAVE " $ 55 MM to spend. I think that's what they would like to spend. I don't really think perry is in any position to outspend Mitt, if it came to that.
You are right about Fox. They are in the tank for Perry, big time. That is the word from Roger Aisles and everybody will toe the network's line.
The debates is yet another Perrioddity. He says he has a story but he seldom want's to defend it. He skipped ALL the debates in the last Gubernatorial campaign in Texas and the Texans gave him a pass. WoW !!

He's only debated 4 times in 10 years as governor. Two of them were in the 2010 GOP primary.

I'm beginning to think that the Republican Party as there share of Kool-Aid sippers.

If you ask them why the like Perry:

I like the way he sounds!
He's tough!
I like what he say's

REALITY is:

They don't know a damn thing about him other than he's not Romney.

He debated Kinky Friedman, et al, in 2006. I think he skipped the 2010 debate with White . Not sure when the other three were you referred to, but the Houston papers had a field day with his refusal to debate White in 2010 over White's taxes

Craig,

Politico has an article about it today. He debated twice last year in the GOP primary, and only two other times in the past ten years. He avoids them at all costs.
