Would Michele Bachmann be a submissive President?

In a stunning video, the Tea Party titan says she follows the biblical rule that women should obey their husbands. But, Jill Lawrence asks, isn’t that a problem for a presidential candidate?
“The Lord says be submissive. Wives, you are to be submissive to your husbands.” – Michele Bachmann, October 2006.

The full story is HERE.

I don't want to come across as being disrespectful in regards to Congresswoman Bachmann's views, but that video was borderline weird.

I have a couple of questions for Michele Bachmann:
  1. Was running for President YOUR or your HUSBAND'S IDEA first?
  2. As President would you ALWAYS BE SUBMISSIVE to your husband's wishes and desires as you have professed in the past?
I don't know about you, but I don't want my President to be submissive to anyone!

I disagree. It was not borderline weird. It was weird! Sorry, I don't get the submissive nonsense. Her husband had to tell her everything to do? She couldn't determine for herself??? Yikes.

And you know what? I don't care if the Lord is out telling Mike Huckabee, or Sarah Palin or Michelle Bachmann to run for office. That's their business, and I don't want to hear it!

I'm so glad Romney doesn't go around saying the Lord told him to run.

This one the most bizarre videos I've seen of Bachmann. Marcus Bachmann is obviously running the show. Shouldn't he be subject to a more thourough media vetting as well? I suspect the MSM is waiting for Soros to give the green light.

Scary stuff indeed.

I don't like that. The implication that the president, if it were Michele Bachmann, would put the will of her husband over the will of the American people, is very distasteful to me. Maybe he should run instead.

With respect, all of you are getting bent out of shape for nothing. Yesterday at a farewell party, a local Professor (who ironically is from my old neck of the woods) said to me tongue and cheek, "is your wife keeping you involved in politics or is it the other way around?" We both smiles. The point of the matter is that many husbands and wives discuss politics and perhaps they influence each other.

Further, the is an old Slavic saying that goes something like this 'while the man is the head of the house, the woman is the neck of the house and wherever the neck turns, the head must follow.' Thus it is ultimately a two way street. Women also influence men. It has never been a serious issue in the past that Presidents have wives. Thus, if we one day get a woman President, we should not worry per se that the Woman has a husband. I do not fear the Mr. Bachmann would run the show any more than Mrs. Romney, Mr. Palin, Mrs. Huckabee, Mrs. Obama, Mrs. Bush and so on. This is crying over spilted milk.

To be sure, sometimes a spouse does have to must power, but so far this is just silly season.

OJ,

Did you even watch the video?

I think you're way off base if you don't see anything odd here.

Ohio JOE said...

OK, I went back and watched it. While it is true that the average American couple does not operate this way, I do not necessarily see the problem. To be sure, Mr. Bachmann encouraged Mrs. Bachmann to learn tax law and then become a politican, but that does not mean he micro manages her affair. For example, my wife might say 'why don't you apply for such and such a job. That does not mean that she would tell me how to do my job should I land it. On the other hand, my wife might ask me for some money to go shopping. That does not mean that I tell her what to buy. Haha, sometimes she tells me what to buy, but shhhhh, I do not listen all the time.

This is the end of her candidacy.

Where has this video been hiding?

Ann said...

I can't believe what she's saying on that video.

As a married woman woman with a profession, I find her message offensive.

So a president Michelle bachmann would not make any decisions until she seeks the advice of her administration's top adviser, her husband LOL..

Massachusetts Conservative said...

Now the question remains... when will this video go viral? When will all the voters see it?

Will it doom her candidacy, or will Fox News decide to hide the video?

Will TPaw run it in an ad?

Right Wingnut said...

This video has been circulated by liberal Minnesota bloggers for years. I've never taken the time to watch it until now, but I've read about it. To get the full context, one needs to watch the video. It really makes her look like a loon.

Bachmann = TOAST

Ohio JOE said...

If that were true RW, these liberal bloggers would have given it to the MSM to distribute.

Right Wingnut said...

OJ,

The MSM is sitting on this, and of lot of other stuff too. If she becomes a legitimate threat to Obama, all he'll will break loose. This is the type of stuff they had hoped to find on Palin, but didnt. If Bachmann had been the national figure Palin is, you would have known about this a long time ago.

Sounds like you're about ready to join the Bachmann camp...

"Sounds like you're about ready to join the Bachmann camp..."

Well RW, if Mrs. Palin run, I'll still back her, but if Mrs. Bachmann keeps rising in the polls, Mrs. Palin will not enter the race. I need a back up plan and the other guy from MN, is apparently too weak and boring to do the job in the campaign. Again, Mrs. Palin is still probably considering a run and wants to run, but realistically, poll numbers are what they are.

My wife is a Bachmann fan.

I showed her this video, and she is still shaking her head in disbelief.

TexasConservative said...

When I saw the headline and before I watched the video clip, I thought it was another MSM gotcha question like the one they gave to Mike Huckabee in the FoxNews debate.

But clearly Bachmann was using this submission verse from the bible as a way to talk to the people in her audience. So she brought it up herself and added to it herself.

I thought her response was quite odd. My husband has never suggested to me that I go into a field that I had no interest in. He has talked with me about fields that I have brought up and encouraged me. But never like Bachmann described her husband doing.

For those of you who might be interested, here is the video clip of Huckabee answering the submission question.

A great classic Huck moment.

I've been posting links to this post all over.

The thought of her as President now scares me.

You should be ashamed of yourselves.

What happened to President Reagan's 11th Commandment?

You claim to be a conservative Republican site.

Anonymous said...

Maybe O.J. needs to watch the video again. Mr. Bachmann did not just "encourage" or even "influence." Per Michele, she "had NO DESIRE" whatsoever to learn tax law, run for a political office. She went so far as to say that she "HATED" tax law. Then she says that they "prayed" about it & got the Lord's confirmation .. I mean who can compete with "the Lord" saying she should be the next Congressperson or the next President. Puleeze.

Right Wingnut said...

Bachmann2012,

Reagan's 11th commandment does not preclude candidates, and supporters from calling eachother on their records and past statements. How else are we to determine our nominee?

These is completely fair game. This video would be disastrous in a general election. Better to get it out now.

Right Wingnut said...

Sorry for all of the typos. iPhone's fault.

ConMan said...

Bachmann 2012,

You're kidding right!

Bachmann broke the 11th Commandment FIRST against Romney and continued to break it.

WHAT GOES AROUND, COMES AROUND!

Right Wingnut said...

Someone should tell Ed Rollins about the 11th commandment. He spent his first two days on the job bashing someone who isn't even a candidate. That's when Palin supporters took their gloves off. Prior to that, the Bachmann bashing was limited to a small (but loud) minority on C4P.

Right Wingnut said...

And I believe any chance of Palin endorsing Bachmann was flushed down the toilet as a result.

Ohio JOE said...

"And I believe any chance of Palin endorsing Bachmann was flushed down the toilet as a result." So she should endorse Mr. Romney then?

Carlo said...

That has to be one of the weirdest videos I've ever seen on a political candidate. Basil, move over:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hvaeHllwtw

And she (or her husband) wants to be President?

Ohio JOE said...

"And she (or her husband) wants to be President?" Well, that would not be as bad as Mrs. Romney for President.

Right Wingnut said...

OJ,

Do you really think Palin would endorse Bachmann? I fear you haven't been paying attention for the last few months.

Right Wingnut said...

OJ, I will go on record as preferring Mrs. Romney to Marcus Bachmann for president.

Ohio JOE said...

No for the record RW, I realize that Mrs. Bachmann is not Mrs. Palin's second coice (after herself,) but really, what else is there? Mr. Romney and Mr. Perry are both for mandates, Mr. Pawlenty is too boring. Mr. Cain does not cut the mustard. I guess there is always Dr. Paul.

So you have a bigger problem with Mr. & Mrs. Bachmann than you do with Mrs. & Mr. Romney??? All I can say is: WOW.

Right Wingnut said...

OJ, I don't wAnt either of them. You presented a choice between Marcus and Ann.

I'm not sure if you realize what they are about to do to Bachmann. She IS what the media and the left try to tell us Sarah Palin is. There's plenty of video and other evidence to back it up.

Most Palin supporters are willing to wait until we get a definitive answer before switching camps. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

Anonymous said...

Bachmann has turned to be a regular dogmatic religious freak. Not what I want in a president either, and I'm a conservative!

LAPhil said...

Can't these candidates ever keep their religion out of politics? I agree with the first Anonymous, at least Romney doesn't push his beliefs on anyone else.

Ohio JOE said...

"Most Palin supporters are willing to wait until we get a definitive answer before switching camps." That is all fine and well, but the chances of her entering the race is getting smaller. What purpose does it serve to get into a freaking pissing contest with a fellow Tea Party Conservative? To be blunt I expect this from MA Con and company.

Ohio JOE said...

"at least Romney doesn't push his beliefs on anyone else." Yeah, he leaves that to DD and company to do.

LAPhil said...

Thank you, Right Speak, for showing this video. This site obviously has a lot of integrity for doing so, as many knee-jerk conservatives would probably be outraged that anyone would dare to do anything which might denigrate their newfound champion. After reading about how Bachmann has signed that idiotic pledge and after seeing this video, there is no way this woman will ever get my vote.

I'm still thirsty said...

I asked my wife to watch this video.

Then I asked her to get me a beer. She laughed and said, Ask Michele Bachmann to get on for you.

OJ, I was unaware of 'dd and company' pushing Mormonism in this site. Example? Do you even know dd's faith, cause I sure don't.

Well OJ,

If we listened to the pollsters at this time in 2007, we'd either have a President Clinton, or a President Giuliani.

Bachmann is the latest "flavor of the month." Believe me when I tell you that she's in for a very rough ride. All of her skeletons are finally being bared to the nation. We can argue whether it's fair, or not fair, but she HAS NOT been vetted by the MSM yet. A new article came out on Politico about an expose that ABC news covered regarding Marcus Bachmann's gay cure. Just last winter, Marcus called gays "barbarians" in a radio interview. Since, Michele submits to Marcus, this stuff is all fair game in an election, and it will only escalate in the weeks and months to come.

Polling Palin doesn't mean jack squat until she's an announced candidate. Furthermore, Bachmann's support is a mile wide and an inch thick. I believe her numbers would crater with an announcement from Palin.

Right Wingnut said...

OJ,

It's not just the gay stuff and a couple of youtube vids either. There's A LOT of stuff. Google is your friend.

THAT is amazing!! I don't doubt that religious people do go through experiences like that, but.......seriously, do you think Romney would even have a chance had he said the same exact words??

Those are not the kind of experiences you go around sharing with lots of people. Yeah.....that, unfortunately, would NOT go well in a general election. "Hello" Repubs!!! While voting in the primaries.........you better be thinking of the Gen. Election and NOT be a purist!

I don't think she'll endorse either.

I think she'll run an unconventional campaign on her terms.

Starting with the timing of when she becomes a candidate.

Voting for Michele is a big NO but in fact you are actually voting for her gay-hating, closeted husband.

I would also like to thank rightspeak.net for the integrity
shown in posting this video.

I am a Conservative Christian, and I was excited about
Michelle Bachmann as a Presidential candidate because
I thought because She was an accomplished professional who
is also a Congresswoman, she would be a wonderful role model
for Conservative Christian girls, to show them that they
also can have a strong voice, and can be accomplished.

When I was growing up I saw a Mom who had no voice,
no respect, and I went to Church to hear messages of
submission, and not the way Mike Huckabee interprets it,
so I thought Michelle Bachmann was a breath
of fresh air, although I did wonder how a Conservative
Christian Woman who has a narrow interpretation of
certain biblical passages could be President of the
United States.

Well this video shows me that a Woman who thinks the
way she does, would not be someone who I can vote for.
This video is definitely creepy.

I haven't seen anywhere, that Sarah Palin has those
views.
