Mitt Romney refuses to sign the Controversial Marriage Pledge.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will not sign a controversial marriage vow from the Iowa social conservative group, The Family Leader.

"Mitt Romney strongly supports traditional marriage but he felt this pledge contained references and provisions that were undignified and inappropriate for a presidential campaign," said campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul late Tuesday night.

[...]

The Romney campaign, in announcing that he won't sign the pledge, also released a statement from state Rep. Renee Schulte of Cedar Rapids.

"One of the reasons I support Gov. Romney is his support for traditional marriage," Schulte's statement said. "However, I am glad he won't sign this ill-advised pledge. The Family Leader would do more to advance the issues that conservatives like Mitt and I support if they kept it simple."

As far as I know, only Michele Bachmann and Rick Santorum have signed the pledge with no strings attached. Tim Pawlenty announced AFTER ROMNEY that he won't sign it either.

lol I bet good ol christian boy rick santorum wishes he could get his signature back. Thats what you get for trying to be the ultimate panderer to a 3rd party group by always wanting to be the first to sign something without reading the fineprint.

Where are Romney's actual words? All I see are words from his representatives.

Pawlenty at least came out with his own statement and video.

In the attached story, Bachmann and Santorum also issued comments through spokespeople.

HaHaHaHa!

TC, Do you really think they issued a statement without his knowledge?

The point REV made was, Romney (or his staffs statement..according to you) came BEFORE Pawlenty's

I wonder where he got the idea???

Oh texas, picky picky. He won't sign it, and now pawlenty said he won't either. Ellie

Why is it picky to want to see the candidates own words?

Even Huntsman had his own wording for declining the DeMint pledge:

"I don't sign pledges -- other than the Pledge of Allegiance and a pledge to my wife," Huntsman said. He says he told DeMint "You just have to understand that's where I come down."

Texas, the campaign spokeswoman speaks for Romney. These are the words HE chose to say. I also believe he didn't necessarily want dignify the topic.
