Just in time for the July 4th weekend, the Marist Poll has asked Americans in which year the United States declared its independence. And, the result is many Americans need to brush up on their American history.

Not too many surprises in the cross tabs...I would have thought the split between men and women answering correctly would have been more even.

I suspect Obama won the "Other Dates Mentioned" and 'Other Countries Mentioned" voters by significant margins.

Its not as bad as when I ask someone when the War of 1812 was and they give me a different date.
