PPP Polling: Romney and Palin on top of the GOP

Even as the Republican field for president really starts to take final shape, there truly is no frontrunner, perhaps more than ever before. And several longshot contenders are getting significant traction in this unclear environment, while others decline. Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin share the lead at 16% in PPP’s latest national poll of Republican primary voters, with Tim Pawlenty at 13%, Herman Cain at 12%, Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, and Michele Bachmann at 9% each, and Jon Huntsman at 4%. While her potential candidacy has received renewed speculation in the last week, if Palin does not make a bid, it would boost Romney to 20%, Gingrich and Bachmann to 13%, and Paul to 11%, with the other three running in place.
Favorable/Unfavorable/Not sure:

Sarah Palin 61/30/9 (+31)
Mitt Romney 54/30/16 (+24)
Newt Gingrich 39/44/18 (-5)

Given the choices of Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman, Sarah Palin, Ron Paul, Tim Pawlenty, and Mitt Romney who would you most like to see as the Republican candidate for President next year?

Mitt Romney 16%
Sarah Palin 16%
Tim Pawlenty 13%
Herman Cain 12%
Michele Bachmann 9%
Ron Paul 9%
Newt Gingrich 9%
Jon Huntsman 4%
Someone else/Undecided 12%

WITHOUT Palin:

Mitt Romney 20%
Michele Bachmann 13%
Newt Gingrich 13%
Tim Pawlenty 13%
Herman Cain 12%
Jon Huntsman 4%
Ron Paul 11%
Someone else/Undecided 13%
PPP surveyed 574 usual Republican primary voters nationwide from May 23rd to 25th.The margin of error for the survey is +/-4.1%.

Darn, it didn't take long for Palin to steal the spotlight from Mitt...but congrats to both on the shared victory. I am most surprised by T-Paw's strong showing...I'm going to have to eat some crow from Smack over at Race...for those of you who don't know him...he is to T-Paw what Craig was to Huckabee.

Jersey, what victories?

Mitt announced, Sarah reaffirmed her jealous and petty nature.

The entire bus tour was to get where she did today. All planned, and all childish.

I don't want a bull in a china shop, as some of you seem to like. It's a good way to steal the show, but it's not a plausible path to winning, or an effective way to govern.

Sarah showed us a lot today.

Yes it is rather funny for Martha to use the Bull in China shop line.

I do not mind Smack, it is MWS that is becoming the Craig of the Pawlenty camp.

MWS, knows how to push buttons and gets a kick out of it...if you don't let him push your buttons he's alright.

WTH? romney's been running for president for 5 years, and he can't garner more that 16%? Pathetic.
