Harvard Poll: Support for the Massachusetts health law rises

Support for the Massachusetts universal health care law has increased since 2009, according to a poll of the state’s residents — even as the law has become the subject of blistering attacks in national and presidential politics, and health care costs soar.
The poll by the Harvard School of Public Health and The Boston Globe found that 63 percent of Massachusetts residents support the 2006 health law, up 10 percentage points in the past two years. Just 21 percent said they were against the law......
.....The majority’s perception — which aligns with health policy specialists’ view that overall medical inflation is driving up costs in Massachusetts — may help explain the continued strong support for the law.
“I was quite surprised,’’ said poll co-director Robert J. Blendon, professor of health policy and political analysis at the Harvard School of Public Health. “Nationally there are so many critics blaming costs on the Massachusetts law, I thought maybe residents would be picking up the rhetoric.’’

The telephone poll of 537 Massachusetts adults, conducted from May 24 to 26 in English and Spanish, has a margin of error of 5.3 percentage points.

What happened to all the TV bright lights that regaled us with stories about the lack of support for RomneyCare in Massachusetts and the link between RomneyCare and rising healthcare costs? The WSJ Editorial gaggle should get together and read this poll. O'Reilly also could benefit from a little homework. Not sure it would help Palin to get into any details like this. Involves a bit of reading instead of pizza with Trump

Craigs, I think that you are missing the point. Before this poll there were approximately 5 o 6 polls that have shown high support for health care reform in MA and one poll that didn't. Critics of Mitt Romney, of course, chose that one poll. Now there are approximately 6 o 7 polls that show high support for health care reform. Which poll do you think that critics of Mitt Romney are going to continue to choose when making their "argument?"

It's kind of like when they blame rising premiums on health care reform. This is not going to shut anyone up. The WSJ editorial board is going to continue to do what they do, because they know the money is in blasting Obama and anything that appears like a moderate position. Facts have absolutely nothing to do with reporting.

Pablo,
Yeah, I get the point, but it is still frustrating to listen to the endless negative comments that are mostly unrelated to actual facts.Occasionally , a beam of bright light, like this article, illuminates the real story and all the rats race for their rat holes

It's funny how Romney's critics spread lies about MA citizens and their so-called dislike for Romneycare.

I'm sure this poll will go nowhere because it puts Romney in a good light and the media wouldn't want to do that.

Now that's an inconvenient poll, now isn't it?

Most polls I've seen on this issue show that Mass residents like Romneycare.

The one Suffolk Poll that showed they didn't like it, was an outlier.

Ah, but watch for their tactics. First they argue that RomneyCare is a bust, because no one likes it and they refer to whatever poll or study.

When countered with other polls and studies that show that their claims might be based on information that is not universally considered accurate, they change the game and argue that of course MA residents like it, because it's liberal.

The irony is that they flip flop re Mitt more than a fish that falls out of the net and onto the deck of a New England fishing boat. Gotta hold their feet to the fire. Btw, they employ similar tactics with respect to Mitt's own popularity in MA.

Thanks for the information!

Interesting of the statistics of uninsured with MA and Alaska!

Her comment on MANDATES in "jabbing" as the media reported, Romney. Surely Alaska has some MANDATES?

Anyone have facts on mandates she might have supported during her shortened term? Does she not support mandated auto insurance? Education?
