President Obama: The fence (border) is basically complete. Huh?

President Obama’s immigration speech in El Paso today is a poor substitute for the real border security the country still desperately needs. And it was a transparent attempt to keep using illegal immigration as a campaign issue, as President Obama made no attempt to solve this problem during the two years his party held huge majorities in both houses of Congress. His own administration has not done its job to finish the border fence that is a critical part of keeping Americans safe and stopping illegal immigration.
Rather than holding immigration summits at the White House with special interests and making speeches, President Obama should direct the members of his administration tasked with homeland security and patrolling the border to enact measures that have already been made law by Congress.
Five years ago, legislation was passed to build a 700-mile double-layer border fence along the southwest border. This is a promise that has not been kept.
Today, according to staff at the Department of Homeland Security, just 5 percent of the double-layer fencing is complete, only 36.3 miles.
The Government Accountability Office (GAO), Congress’s investigative arm, reported in early 2009 that only 32 miles of double-layer fencing had been built. That means under President Obama, only 4.3 miles of double layer fencing has been built. This is woefully inadequate.

From the reaction from that video, it didn't sound like many people agreed with his assessment.

The full story is HERE

In the same speech, President Obama couldn't help himself in blaming Republican's for not being satisfied with his efforts in securing the border:

As a conservative and proud member of the Republican Party, I take exception to the moat and alligators comment. I think most rational people would be willing to compromise on that. A moat full of Piranhas would be sufficiant.

Obama really doesn't have a clue to what's going on at the border.

He still thinks he can say anything an people will buy it.

We need to put up a real double wall fence with electronic surveillance. Then up the patrols along that fence.

Do ALL of this before we talk about reforming any laws or illegals status.

The approach of this administration to border security is to constantly lie about how secure the border is. If the lie is reported often enough, people will believe it--they hope. Janet Napolitano, the former gov. of AZ, now head of Homeland Security, has assured us that the border is more secure now than ever before. When she has a summit with the sheriffs and local law enforcement, she conveniently fails to invite Sheriffs like Paul Babieu from Pinal County and Joe Arpaio from Maricopa County, who actually disagree with her. I don't know if she does that in other states or not. If the press doesn't see the dissent first hand, they can conveniently ignore it. It's like an ostrich sticking its head in the sand and pretending that no one can see it. I hope the administration strikes out big time with the "border is secure" lie. I believe most Americans are smarter than that. I know that the people in Arizona are.

It's hard to believe that a country such as ours can't adequately secure it's border.

A REAL FULL LENGTH double fence is needed before anything else can be done.

Anything less, is putting your finger in the hole on a dike.
