Rick Santorum wins South Carolina straw poll

Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum has visited South Carolina more than any other potential presidential hopeful, and his efforts paid off Saturday with a straw poll win at the Greenville County Republican Party convention.

Santorum was one of three potential candidates to address Saturday’s convention. Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich also spoke.

Vote-rich and conservative, Greenville County plays a pivotal role in the South Carolina presidential primary, traditionally one of the first states to cast ballots in the presidential nomination process.
Straw Poll Results:

Rick Santorum 31%

Newt Gingrich 14%
Michele Bachmann 7%
Donald Trump 7%
Mitt Romney 6%
Chris Christie 6%
Haley Barbour 5%
Mike Huckabee 5%
Ron Paul 5%
Sarah Palin 4%
Herman Cain 3%
Tim Pawlenty 2%

Total amount of votes 431

I kinda like Santorum getting some traction-- hurting Huck in the process. Although I really don't think he's running.

The thing I find interesting is that Ron Paul received 5% of the votes and he wasn't included in the list of potential GOP candidates. I wonder what he would have polled at had he been listed like the rest of the bunch?

Considering Ron Paul beat everyone in fundraising last quarter, and won the CPAC straw poll, and polls above a number of people who were on the poll, isn't it curious he was left off of this?

Anon,

If he had been included, he couldve won. Paul wins every single poll, cpac, internet, youtube etc. But when it comes down to primaries and the real stuff, he's nowhere to bee seen.

Regardless of the media and their shenanigans, the grass-roots Ron Paul Revolution is alive, well, and continuously expanding. It should be noted that in the 2008 campaign Ron Paul raised $50M officially but the dollar value of his grass-roots armies was closer to $1B. Each and every supporter should remember that their precious time and advocacy is MUCH more valuable than one might consider!

Rev,

I think you've just posted the only poll results that Santorum will ever win.

You should email him the link.

5% for Ron Paul, even though his name wasn't in the poll. I wonder how Romney, Huckabee, Barbour, and Palin feel about that!

Imagine how well Ron Paul would have done if his name was actually on the poll?
