McClatchy-Marist Poll: Romney top GOP, Virtually tied with Obama

Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee are the strongest potential Republican challengers to President Barack Obama at this time, according to a new McClatchy-Marist poll.
And Obama faces a formidable bloc of voters who say, as of now, that they definitely won't vote for him no matter who his opponent is.
Obama's in a virtual tie with Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, and barely tops Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor. Among registered voters, Obama leads Romney by 46-45 percent and Huckabee by 48-43 percent. The survey has an error margin of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.

With this poll, yesterday's WaPa/ABC poll and the polls from last week, I believe we now can assume all the negatives about the field are out there and known, and we are seeing the floor for each candidate.

I think the issues each candidate faces have already been factored in to the numbers - at least for Romney and Palin.

That said, I like Romney's numbers and his consistency in polling. He may not be the "hot" candidate of the moment, but there is a lot to be said for a staid, stable and consistant position.

With all the flamboyance the GOP field is flirting with right now, Romney's stability, in lightof increasing economic uncertianity, may prove to be the winning formula.

I'm shocked at the attention Fox is still giving the week old PPP poll.

There have been 3 national poll since then that Romney has won. Trump distant 2nd or 3rd.

They must really underestimate the intelligence of their viewers.

Hi All
Interesting to see Romney running so far ahead in.....the SOUTH. He is UP 7 points over Obama and Huckabee is even. Trump and Palin are 15 and 12 points behind Obama. Romney is ahead in the Midwest where palin is 14 points behind.

Bos,

It doesn't their "template" right now.

They like the Trump story because right now he giving them ratings. Fox and all the media want to milk this bloated cow for all they can get, before people get tired of his mooing.
