I know it's a long way off, but thinking about the presidential election in 2012, if the election for president were held today and the candidates were Democrat Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney, for whom would you vote? (last poll)

Lean Democrat Barack Obama 2
Republican Mitt Romney 46
Lean Republican Mitt Romney 2
(Other candidate) 3
Lean (Other candidate) 0

(Will not vote in 2012) 0
Total (Other candidate) 3
Total Democrat Barack Obama 46 (48)
Total Republican Mitt Romney 48 (46)
Survey of 1,000 likely voters was conducted April 10-12, 2011, by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner for Democracy Corps and Campaign for America’s Future. The margin of error is +/- 2.5 percentage points.

Romney and Huckabee seem to be the only 2 Republicans who beat Obama on a regular bases.

The strange thing about this is, that Romney is nowhere near as popular with Republicans than Huckabee and Palin.

It must be the COMPETENCE thing kicking in?

Actually, Romney polls consistently ahead of Palin, and polls around the same as Huckabee.

Republicans like Romney, and independents like Romney. He's a business hero who knows how to get the economy moving again.
