Today the UN approved a no fly zone over Libya. They also "authorized U.N. member states to take 'all necessary measures ... to protect civilians and civilian populated areas under threat of attack in the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, including Benghazi, while excluding a foreign occupation force of any form on any part of Libyan territory.'"
My heart goes out to the Libyans fighting to topple Gaddafi, it really does. But I loathe seeing our intervention there. Will we be dragged into another multi-year campaign by the UN, like Korea, Vietnam, or the Balkans? I predict that we will. Do any of you care to make predictions on how long we will be engaged in Libya?
We cannot be the world's police force any more. It is time to close the spigot on that idea. We have neither the financial wherewithal nor the moral authority to do so. At least this terrible idea was undertaken during a democrat presidency instead of a republican. I wonder if this will hurt Obama with his far left supporters come election time.
