Associated Press: Tim Pawlenty to announce exploratory committee (Video)

Pawlenty planned to announce that he was forming a presidential exploratory committee, according to three Republicans who participated in a 15-minute conference call that included Pawlenty's wife, Mary, and two top advisers. The exploratory committee would clear the way for Pawlenty to raise money and hire campaign staff while requiring him to file formal paperwork with the Federal Election Commission.

The campaign, the Republicans said, would be based in Minnesota.

The participants in the call spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity in advance of a formal statement from Pawlenty at 3 p.m. EDT. He planned to discuss his political future on the social media site Facebook. The participants said Pawlenty was careful not to identify himself as a formal candidate yet.

The complete story is here.

After last week, I lost what little bit of enthusiasm I might have had for Pawlenty. The southern drawl just didn't sit well.

And it's not just that. I watched a few recent videos, and he leaves me cold. There's no enthusiasm or commitment in his voice. I guess he wants to be POTUS or VP or something, but he's not making the case that he can rally anyone behind him. I don't get the feeling of a great leader.

Pawlenty's ads have had a fiery tone, but they don't match his persona. I think he is trying to portray himself as a tough guy.

That being said, Pawlenty has been pretty professional and wise in his approach to his campaign. The same cannot be said for many of the other candidates.

Romney is still my favorite, by far.

If this is Mitt's major opponent, Romney might as well start measuring the Whitehouse curtains.

T-Paw puts me to sleep. If you took away most of Mitt’s experiences and brains you’d find another T-Paw. If being president of the United States was like running a massively big business, I’d probably vote for Mitt. But many know what needs to be done, and don’t have the guts to take on the Big Government people: GOP elite, the Left and their media. Since the 2012 president we need will face a long, hard, internal war with the socialists, my choice is still the battle hardened warrior, SP.

TPaw does nothing for me.

After the last "Southern Man" Speech fiasco, it is hard to accept him as a serious person.

I think TPaw would be a real win for the makers of Prozac. The first 40 seconds were a real bummer.

But he has really jazzy and exciting music in his video, but it was so loud, I couldn't hear him.

Mr. Pawlenty is one of the few Republicans that I would not hesitate for vote for in a general election.
