Why is Mike Huckabee advocating for the release of a traitor?; Updated

As evidenced by the following video, Mike Huckabee favors the release of convicted traitor, Jonathan Pollard.

From Wikipedia:
Jonathan Jay Pollard (born August 7, 1954 in Galveston, Texas) is a former civilian intelligence analyst who was convicted of spying for Israel. He received a life sentence in 1987.

Israel granted Pollard citizenship in 1995, while publicly denying, until 1998, that he was an Israeli spy. Israeli activist groups, as well as high-profile Israeli politicians, have lobbied for his release. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has voiced particularly strong support for Pollard, visiting the convicted spy in prison in 2002.

Pollard's case was later linked to that of Ben-Ami Kadish, another U.S. national who pleaded guilty to charges of passing classified information to Israel in the same period.

Erick Erickson, of Red State wrote about Pollard last month:
...Jonathan Pollard was a spy for hire who was hired by Israel, South Africa, and potentially other countries. He ratted out our intelligence and potentially cost people their lives because of it.

There are few conservatives within the actual conservative movement who are paying attention, but the bulk of those who are do not want Pollard released. They want him hanged or shot as a traitor to his country.

I realize there are people who believe our alliance with Israel outweighs every other consideration and they are forced to make logical leaps to defend or mitigate Jonathan Pollard’s actions. But let’s be clear that Jonathan Pollard is a traitor to his country and those defending him or mitigating what he did are defending a traitor with blood on his hands...
I suspect Erickson is already preparing his blog post on Huckabee's support of this traitor. He tweeted this message about an hour ago:
Mike Huckabee ins't just in favor of letting murders out of jail, but traitors too. http://t.co/hufdNy7
I don't understand Huckabee's rationale on this. Do we really need to release an individual who may be responsible for the loss of American lives just to appease Israel?

Update: Erick Erickson has a post up now.
As Governor Arkansas, Mike Huckabee issued 1,033 pardons and commutations, including for 12 convicted murderers.

Several have come back to haunt him.

But if 12 convicted murderers were not enough, Huckabee has gone across the final and furthest bridge. He’s now all in favor of granting clemency to Jonathan Pollard — a traitor whose treason conducted on behalf of the Soviet Union (indirectly through others who forwarded on his intel) and others, including but not limited to Israel, caused deaths, destruction, and all sorts of havoc with our national security.

Huckabee is an idiot. Soft on crime because its the "christian" thing to do. When Maurice Clemmons got out early because of Huckabee and went on to kill those 4 cops, he blamed everybody in Arkansas but himself. He needs to give up his american citizenship and move to Israel where he'll do anything for them.

Claiming that Huckabee let Maurice Clemmons out early and he "went on to kill those 4 cops" leaves out quite a lot of pertinent information. Huckabee agreed with the parole board to shorten a sentence of 108 years given to a minor for burglary. At that point, he'd already served over a decade in prison. Over the following decade, he was arrested and released by other officials many times, and in other states, before he killed those officers. Blaming the cop killings on Huckabee is like saying that Jeffry Dahmer's mother nursed him and he later became a cannibal, so breastfeeding causes cannibalism.

The point here is Huckabee is SOFT on crime.Hes proven that with his record as governor. He should have taken blame for it, but blames his parole board.Anyone whos gives out over a thousand commutations and clemencys including 12 convicted murderers is Soft on crime and its unacceptable. Dont defend him, and whats your defense for him supprting the release of a SPY to show "friendship" towards Israel? He needs to either be tried as traitor or move with his obsession to israel.

I am beginning to think that Huckabee should just go run for Prime Minister of Israel.

Anon, you're the one leaving out pertinent information. First of all the burglary was just one of several convictions. Secondly, the sentence with good behavior was already under 50 years, not 108 as you people continually post. Thirdly, Clemmons had been a very bad prisoner, with over 20 serious problems of behavior. He did not warrant consideration for early release.

This was a very stupid move on the part of Huckabee if he is wanting to run for the Presidency. This will just be a reminder that Huckabee is soft on crime.

Why does someone always bring up Huckabee's weight? Does a weight problem keep Christie from doing a good job of governing?

Why do some bring up his weight? Good question. I don't typically engage in that line of attack, but perhaps they bring it up because he insists on lecturing others about healthy eating and weight management.

First, Don't knock deep fried oreos until you've tried them.

The problem with Huckabee other than being to cozy with Israel is, The BAPTIST MINISTER thing.

He's got this bleeding heart mentality that is a BIG NEGATIVE for any potential President to have.

there is a difference between 'trying' them and making them a regular item on your weekly menu.

The Facts of the Pollard Case

That is a major flaw in his psyche.

He feels that he knows more than those who sat on juries and took the time to decided the case and determine the sentence.

Bottom line is this man was a traitor and spy and not just for Israel. Israel already admitted he was a spy of theirs and he belongs in prison. Huckabee has a boner for Israel and will do anything to please them. The maurice clemmons issue already hurt him and now hes going to get involved in releasing a spy to please Israel? What a retard. He supports the government getting involved in what our kids eat, they need to investigate what he is eating.

Thanks, Granny T for the link,

Don't expect EE to change his tune. He is as anti-Huck as you can get.

Pollard was not a traitor. A traitor is someone that gave classified information to an enemy during wartime. Pollard was not responsible for American deaths. That was spy Aldridge Ames. It was blamed on Pollard. The guilty party was Pollard's supervisors who did not give critical information to Israel that they should have. The USA and Israel had an inteligence sharing agreement. The USA should have given that same information to Israel. Further evidence shows that Pollard did not injure the USA in fact because of him the Iraqi nuclear facility was destroyed during Sadam Hussain's rein. Just imagine the danger to the USA and the world if Sadam Hussain had nuclear weapons. God Forbid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
