Mitt Romney at the International Franchise Convention 02-14-11

Mitt Romney spoke yesterday at the International Franchise Convention in Las Vegas.

In front of more than 2700 franchise executives, small business owners and entrepreneurs,
Mitt Romney addressed many of the challenges facing small businesses in the current economic and political environment, while citing franchise small businesses a critical engine for local job growth and economic recovery.

Romney, a likely 2012 Republican presidential candidate, spent much of his 40-minute speech addressing issues that hinder the ability for franchise businesses to grow and create jobs, such as the lack of permanent tax certainty, a health care law that does not control costs for employers and over regulation by government agencies.

"Growing small businesses are what get us out of economic downturns," said Romney. "Instead of creating policies in Washington that help small businesses grow, we have seen the most anti-business agenda in a lifetime."
Romney highlighted his past as a venture capitalist.
“I respect American business, and people who start businesses that are small and grow to be large are people that I salute,’’ he said.
In referring to the public sector as "they", Romney joked,
“I’m not really a politician yet. I have to get elected at least twice to be a politician.’’
Romney pointed out,
"private sector work is “far less forgiving’’ than government work, because when government makes a mistake, “we simply pass that cost on to the taxpayers, or we borrow more money and pass it on to the next generation.’’
Small business owners know, he said, that if “you make a mistake like that, you go out of business. You lose your job. You lose other people’s jobs. . . . That’s why the best and brightest are in your world, and not in the government world.’’

I hope there is a video of this keynote. It sounds like it would be a good one to view.

I agree also. I'd like to view this video if it becomes available.

It sounds like it was 100% about The economy, jobs, and bringing businesses back.

Someone thought someone else was going to film this, but forgot to follow up on it.

This trip gave him a chance to shore up his support in Nevada. In addition to this speech, he met with a lot of his past supporters, who appear to be ready to go to the mattresses for him again.
