Huntsman's Incredible Indiscretion

No, he didn't take a trip to Argentina. What he did do is attend a 'Jasmine Revolution' rally in China. While he was still the US Ambassador to China. The Jasmine Revolution was a brief lived anti government movement in China that took place around the start of the revolution in Libya.

Here is a youtube video of Ambassador Huntsman being confronted by some Chinese at the rally:

The video shows Ambassador Huntsman, who is expected to run for president in 2012, wearing sunglasses and a jacket with an American flag on the shoulder outside a Beijing McDonald's on Sunday.
"Hey Mr Ambassador, what are you doing here?" he is asked in Chinese, according to a translation on a website called the Shanghaiist.
"I'm just here to look around," Huntsman said.
The questioner, whose image is blurred, says, "You want to see China in chaos, don't you?"
"No, I don't," Huntsman said.
Huntsman then left.
Full story here

The video is only 1:30 and the news article is short. I would advise all the Rightspeak readers to take the time to watch and read these. This action should disqualify Huntsman from ever being president.

I'll bet he wished he was somewhere else when found out.

Actually, he took his daughters and wife to McDonalds for lunch. You can see his wife, Maryanne (she's the blonde) and one of his adopted daughters, Gracie May. This was a family lunch outing, and the ruckus was a ways off. KSL had a longer video of it, and it was very clear that he was not a party to any anti gov't protest. I still don't think he's ready for the presidency, but it's not because of this propaganda video you bought into.

"The controversy has also involved Mr. Huntsman, who was at the rally on Sunday. The American Embassy said Mr. Huntsman just happened to be passing by the McDonald’s."

Ya sure, it was just a coincidence that he happened to be eating at that McDonald's when the protest broke out. Or if the protest was already under way, why didn't Huntsman get out of there as soon as he saw there was a protest. Let's see, big group of Chinese assembled for a protest. Pretty obvious from a distance what is going on. Did Huntsman turn around and leave as soon as he saw a protest? How about his bodyguards? Why didn't they realize what was going on? And if they did know, why the heck did Huntsman go on into the middle of the protesters to just look around.

Please, what a load of crap.

But hey, maybe Governor Sanford was really just visiting Argentina on SC state business.

I believe he was there WITH HIS FAMILY, eating lunch. He left the area with HIS FAMILY. I don't know huntman personally. But I doubt that he'd risk his wife and children.

He was there with his family STANDING in the middle of the protesters. He wasn't trying to walk through them to get to his destination, he wasn't in the McDonalds looking out at them. He and his family were right there in the middle of them. Standing there. Watching. Not trying to go anywhere. Not eating lunch.

GOD Bless him for promoting Democracy in China.

OJ, democracy in China would be great. The US Ambassador has to be neutral in issues like these. His actions could lead to China revoking diplomatic immunity to US diplomats, and kicking them out of the country. The chance of that happening over this one incident is virtually nonexistent. But his actions display a remarkable lack of discretion and judgment.
