I’m going to read you a list of names -- for each one please tell me if you think that person would make a good president or not. If you have never heard of a person, please just say so. (RANDOMIZE) SCALE: 1. Yes 2. No 3. (Don’t know - vol.) 4. Never heard of
Head-to-Head (Obama/Candidate)
Mitt Romney 48/41 (-7)
Mike Huckabee 49/41 (-8)
Newt Gingrich 55/35 (-20)
Jeb Bush 54/34 (-20)
Sara Palin 56/35 (-21)
The Fox News Poll is conducted under the joint direction of Anderson Robbins Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R). The poll is based on live telephone interviews with a national sample of 911 registered voters, and was conducted February 7-9, 2011 in the evenings.
Landline and cell phone telephone numbers were randomly selected for inclusion in the survey using a probability proportionate to size method, which means that phone numbers for each state are proportional to the number of voters in each state.
Results based on the full sample have a margin of error of ± 3%. Results among subgroups have larger sampling errors, including: Democrats (n = 389) ± 5%; Republicans (n = 354) ± 5%; Independents (n = 147) ± 8%.
Results from Fox News polls before February 2011 were conducted by Opinion Dynamics CorpClick Fox Icon below for crosstabs:

You can believe very early polls who have a history of inaccuracy in picking great Presidents (or even bad Presidents),
or you can believe birthdays.
Washington = February
Lincoln = February
Reagan = February
Sarah Palin = February
Both are not great predictors.
So, for me, out of the two I’m going with the birth-month idea. It's just as good.
Another poll showing Romney and Huckabee as the front-runners - basically telling us that PPP has been doing a fairly good job despite what some think.
I noticed that Romney did 1 point better than Huckabee against Obama and Huckabee did 1 point better than Romney in "if you think that person would make a good president". It's a shame that both of them do so poorly against Obama though. Maybe if people realized what a lousy job he's doing leading the free world with the unrest in the Middle East they'd choose differently.
Romney tops a FOX Poll.
I thought the fix was in?
Bill,
"So, for me, out of the two I’m going with the birth-month idea. It's just as good.'
I'm a 'finger in the wind' kinda guy.
Am I correct to presume that a person would do poorly in your poll if he were not mentioned? There is something fishy with a poll that does not include Ron Paul. Come on!!! "A Place for All Conservatives to Speak Their Mind" you say? You mean all conservatives but one you don't like? Sincerely, Richard in Virginia
There have been a long series of polls that show Mitt and Mike at the top of the race....both in the nomination quest and in head-to-head matchups vis a vis Obama.
I find this puzzling since activists who are drawn to Mitt's campaign generally dislike Huckabee, and activists attracted to Mike's campaign generally dislike Mitt.
And yet, Republicans as a whole seem to like both of them more than any of the others. The same seems to be true of Independents.
Go figure.
