Mike Huckabee in the News

Mike Huckabee was in Destin Florida yesterday talking to young professionals about education, economics and a possible presidential run in 2012. Click here and here to watch local video clips.

WMBB News13
Huckabee gave his thoughts on the economy “…part of the reason we’re in the fix we’re in is this attitude that we’re going to penalize productivity and we will subsidize irresponsibility.”

And even likened Congress to refs officiating a football game “…when the guys in the striped shirts become a participant and not merely a regulator everybody loses and ultimately someone gets really really unhappy.”

The Fix-Face Off: Mike Huckabee vs Mike Pence
by Chris Cillizza January 18, 2011

Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post posted his Fix Face-Off video. Mike Huckabee is discussed at the 5:20 mark.

Question: Who will capitalize more on Sarah Palin's misstep, Mike Huckabee or Mike Pence?

Cillizza: Huckabee can gain more easily. He is right there with Palin on the tea party/evangelical tea partiers. I think he could gain there. We have a tendency to write off Huckabee a little too quickly. This is a guy who is ahead in Iowa, demonstrated appeal in some of these early states. If he runs he will be a serious person He does not run an orthodox campaign-he doesn't have a big campagin opersation, he doesn't raise a lot of money. Palin is right there in the mix too and she doesn't run a traditional campaign too. I do think Huckabee for the moment, but keep an eye on Pence. He and Rick Santorum have the potential to surprise, not necessarily win the nomination, but surprise in how well they perform.

Perhaps Mike Huckabee understands better than most the relationship between social issues and the economy. Shane Vander Hart summarized Huckabee’s views when he was in Des Moines, Iowa in December:

by Michael Barone January 18, 2011

Mike Huckabee, who campaigned explicitly as a Christian conservative, established a link with these voters and managed to overcome the well-financed, well-organized and personally intensive campaign of Mitt Romney by a 34%-25% margin, with 13% for Fred Thompson, 13% for John McCain (who mostly ignored Iowa, as he did completely in his 2000 campaign) and 10% for Ron Paul.

False premise, but even if true, it will be Mr. Pence. We Palinites won't automatically forgive the Huckabeeites for their silly Grand standing.

Mike Huckabee needs three doable things to happen.

1. Win the Iowa caucus by uniting the troups once again there.

2. Win Iowa versus Obama and he's in the best position of any Republican by far, imo.)

3. Win in all the traditional Red states in the general as in this map:

http://mjosephsheppardrecoveringliberal.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/snipmap.jpg

Mike Huckabee will then be the 45th President of the entire United States. And a great one at that. : )

AND again, very well done and informative post, Debbie aka Texas Conservative. Huck would be proud of you and I'm sure he will be throughout...

Ohio Joe,

How presumptuous for you to feel you speak for Sarah Palin supporters when the polling clearing shows that Mike Huckabee is their second choice by far over Mitt Romney and the others.

And as it stands now, it's a two man race. The NON-etablishment's Huckabee versus the establishment's moderate candidate, Romney.

Huck has positioned himself correctly.

Are there 5% cult like devotees of Palin or Romney who are only in this for themselves? Yes, of course. C4P and ROS ring a bell?

But even they will vote Huck over Obama for the most part IN THE STATES THAT MATTER. (SEE MAP)

OhioJOE said...

First of all, if anybody is in it for themsevles, it is you buster. So Mr. Huckabee is more popular than Mr. Romney among Palinites. Yippie skippy, talk about setting the bar low. While Mr. Huckabee can win a two way fight against Mr. Romney among Palinites, Mr. Huckabee would not fair very well, if certain other folks get into the mix.

My predictions..

Mike Pence is running for Governor of Indiana

Haley Barbour will support his friend Mitch Daniels

Santorum, Cain, Bachmann; though in or likely in, will gain little traction over Huckabee in Iowa and South Carolina

Oh, Joe and if you think Rick Perry is the Huck stopper, think again...

Perry lags in Texas

As Rick Perry contemplates a Presidential bid there's one place he can't expect a whole lot of support from: Texas. He polls at only 9% in a hypothetical Republican primary, putting him in sixth place. Mike Huckabee leads the way with 24%, followed by Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin at 17%, and Mitt Romney and Ron Paul at 10%. Perry bests only Tim Pawlenty at 4% and Mitch Daniels at 3%.

It's not that Texas Republicans don't like Perry- his approval with them is a 65/26 spread, very healthy after escaping a spirited primary contest with just a shade over 50% of the vote last year. But whether it's because they don't think he's cut out for the White House or just that they think he should serve out the Gubernatorial term he was elected to only a couple of months ago they are not very supportive of him for a possible Presidential bid. His performance lags behind what we see for Pawlenty in Minnesota and even for Rick Santorum in Pennsylvania.

Assuming that Perry does not end up putting his hat in the ring Huckabee keeps his lead in the state with 25% to 21% for Palin, 17% for Gingrich, 10% for Romney, 9% for Paul, 5% for Pawlenty, and 3% for Daniels. Huckabee has by far the best favorability of the Republicans at a +56 spread (71/15), followed by Palin at +45 (69/24), Gingrich at +38 (60/22), and Romney at just +25 (52/27).

Those numbers for Romney are pretty ominous- they're an indication that he could really have some trouble connecting with voters in states that have heavily conservative Republican primary electorates, which frankly at this point is most of them.

Winning across the board in the south would be a very big step toward a potential Huckabee nomination so these numbers bode well for him on that front.

"Oh, Joe and if you think Rick Perry is the Huck stopper, think again" I never mentioned Mr. Perry. BTW, your friend (the banner) just got himself banned. What comes around goes around.

CraigRandall1 said...

BTW, Who's that, Joe?

If you're talking about Goldman, he and I used to have our knocked down dragged out battles and he even banned me several times forcing me to email Kavon and Kris to be reinstated immediately each time.

And I forgave Aron each time. ; )

"What happened to the chat box?" Oh, so we are not banned?

Craig, I am sorry, but you make my head spin worse than Romneyites. I am so dizzy that I am about to take medication. First of all, on the chat box, you denied being banned in the first place. Second of all, you mocked people who were banned. Will the real you stand up, or do you not even know who you are anymore?

CraigRandall1 said...

Joe,

I am not the "Guess Who" poster who messes with y'all from time to time but I can guess who it is. ;)

And she's really pretty funny and clever throwing in the obvious clues. (I think it's ..ah nevermind, let's keep it a mystery till Nov '12)

Secondly, I blog, post, and comment for Huckabee to win and if a few Huckahaters get banned along the way, so be it since they probably crossed the line. But I say let all 'em all back after they serve their short sentence.

OhioJOE said...

"..ah nevermind, let's keep it a mystery till Nov '12)" Haha, it is Mrs. Huckabee?

"if a few Huckahaters get banned along the way, so be it since they probably crossed the line." I see, hating Mr. Huckabee crosses the line, but hating Mrs. Palin does not. Where have we heard that before?

CraigRandall1 said...

Joe,

I thought that Martha, Ellie, and Wingnut crossed the line many times talking about Sarah or Mike's children.

And said so EVERY time while making the management of the sites aware.

Right Wingnut said...

Huckabee, What the hell are you talking about? I was banned sometime in late summer of 2010. I never talked about anyone's children. I was posting as an anon during that discussion (about one month ago) you're referring to, because I had been banned for months. Myself and a few others simply pointed out that Mike may not be the best spokesperson for healthy eating and weight management. I stand by what I said.

CraigRandall1 said...

You even posted pictures of Huck's sons.

Right Wingnut said...

Huck, I posted a link to their FAMILY PHOTO. I'm sure they're proud of their own Christmas photo. Apparently, you are not.

Here it is..

So out of line. Focus on Huck, not his family.

Don't act like a liberal.

It's a lie, they don't make you look thinner.
I wonder what the squirrel consumption is in that household?

Right Wingnut said...

I absolutely did not make fun of her kids. That was TEX. That's not my style, but you can keep repeating it until you're blue in the face if it makes you feel better.
