Israel shocked by Obama's "betrayal" of Mubarak

If Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak is toppled, Israel will lose one of its very few friends in a hostile neighborhood and President Barack Obama will bear a large share of the blame, Israeli pundits said on Monday.

The complete story is HERE.

I don’t know enough about the Middle East to suggest what a President should do.

However, if Israelis feel shocked because Obama betrayed somebody, I can say, “Join the crowd.”

How would you like to live in the neighboring country where all that rioting is going on.

Mubarak was friendly or at least tolerated Israel. Do you think the Muslim Brotherhood will follow suit?

I fear that this could be the beginning of something much bigger than just Mubarak's departure.

Much of the oil Israel uses comes from Egypt. If this becomes a nation ruled by a Religious fanatic, Israel may be forced to take action even at the slightest provocation. And then what?

Other than Israel, Egypt was always considered the stable one in the mid-east. Mubarak ran a tight ship. Who knows what will happen there now.

Mubarek still is a dictator. That is one of the problems inherent with the Bush Doctrine. Sometimes when you promote democracy it can backfire. There's really no good solution in this problem. The Administration has showed yet another reason why they are totally inept...they should have intervened, behind the scenes, over a year ago when Mubarek started talking about passing the reins of power to his son. This entire thing could have been avoided.
