Palin leads the pack in Quinnipiac poll

Bosman posted some polling data from Quinnipiac earlier today.

I find this additional data from the poll, which was not included in Bosman's post, highly relevant.

Romney, Huckabee, and Gingrich appear to be losing ground to Palin over the last few weeks. The problem I have with Quinnipiac's hypothetical general election polling, is that they neglected to disclose the party identification splits. The data is useless without knowing who they polled. Survey USA has her down only 4 to Obama. Cross-tabs for this poll aren't available yet.

So this eells me Palin is tied with Romney for the GOP nomination, and Bosman's shows that ONLY Romney could beat Obama in a general.

How is this post relevant?

Isn't the end game, BEATING Obama and not just winning the nomination?

Right Wingnut said...

Phil, As you well know, the election isn't for another 2 years. Also of note--you have to win the nomination in order to get the privilage of facing Obama. It's highly relevent.

In addition, we don't know the party ID breakdown of the poll Bosman posted. Why would they withhold that info?

Have you looked at the internals of this poll? Romney beats Palin when running against Obama in nearly every single category. It's amazing!! If you want to post this as good news for Palin, have at it:

Republican Voters Vs. OBAMA
Romney 91 3
Huckabee 88 4
Palin 85 6

Conservative Voters Vs. OBAMA
Romney 75 15
Huckabee 76 16
Palin 72 17

Born Again/Evangelical Vs. OBAMA
ROMNEY 69 19
Huckabee 72 21
Palin 67 23

This is just a start. He also beats her in nearly every other category.

Poll: Sarah Palin can't beat Obama. But Mitt Romney can

zeke

Illinoisguy said...

Yes, in case some of you haven't noticed (or don't care) it does us absolutely no good whatsoever to nominate somebody that has no chance of beating Obama. Mitt can beat him...not sure about Huckabee, but nobody else it would seem.

Right Wingnut said...

Mitt won't win the nomination, so all your data is irrelevent.

RWN,

Romney had some kind words for Palin today,

I'd hate to have to start being nice to Palinites.

Right Wingnut said...

Yeah, thanking her for complimenting him in her book. I caught that.

Anonymous said...

RWN-I really wish you and your type had no say in the republican nomination process. Mark my words, you will cause the republican party to fail and take our country over a cliff. SHAME ON YOU ALL.

Tracey, I love you too.

RW, when you say things like Romney will not win the nomination, do you really believe that he has no chance, or are you just being a horses rear? I don't like to throw you in the category of Iowa#1 over at ROS, or evven MWS, but sometimes you're a lot nicer than other times. I have a feeling you didn't like the cross tabs very well?

Two years ago, Mr. Huckabee and Mr. Romney did not have a chance to beat Mr. Obama either. If Mr. Obama continues on the same path, Mrs. Palin will have a chance as well and that is good enough for me.

IG, the problem with Romney's nomination aspirations lie in the fact that a lot of the potential newcomers will draw from his support moreso than Huckabee or Palin's. This could hurt him very badly in Iowa and NH and maybe even a little in Nevada...or maybe it won't?! Too early to tell. This is all conjecture...all of it. Every statement you say about Palin not being able to win in the General or RWN saying that Romney cannot win the nomination. Who knows...but please don't act all self-righteous when it comes to being nice to other candidates.

Hey, good to see you JR. Yes unfortunately for us, Mr. Romney certainly has a chance to win the nomination and unfortunately for the anti-Palinites, Mrs. Palin has a chance to beat Mr. Obama. Her detractors cannot let that happen, so it will be fun to watch them.

On a side note, too bad Q did not give regional results.

Name one current poll that says that Palin has a CHANCE to beat Obama.
POLARIZING - cause division of opinion: to make the differences between groups or ideas ever more clear-cut and extreme, hardening the opposition between them, or become ever more clear-cut and extreme in this way.
That is a term used to define Palin. Palin can't beat Obama because she is POLARZING.

Right Wingnut said...

Given that the vast majority of American people agree with Palin on the issues. and disagree with Obama, I think Obama is the polarizing one.

Zogby has a new poll showing Palin trailing by 1, the Survey USA poll has her trailing by 4. It's truly remarkable for an incumbant president to be in this situation 2 years out from the election.

By the way, anyone care to guess how where Reagan stood in the polls against Carter a mere 8 MONTHS from his historic landslide victory? The answer is here.

Reagan was "polarizing" too.

Anon 9:26 AM, polls this far out are fun but also meaningless. Palin has put a few things in the pipelines that could increase her numbers. People believe she is polarizing because that is how she is portrayed by the media. If her non-conventional "campaign" works she will continue to rise in the polls as it gets closer and closer to the primaries and then possibly the General election. I never said it would be easy but the truth is that Palin's detractors wrote her off in '08...after the loss, then again in '09 after she resigned, then a few more times after poll numbers come out but she just keeps proving the naysayers wrong and her continuous, slight, rise in polls is proof.

OJ...glad to see you found your way over here. Do you visit ROS anymore? And you're right...let the games begin. In a few months we'll be sick of all the polls.

I check what is going on, I visit sometimes and comment seldom nowadays. As you know, I have been in a bad mood politically for about 12 or 13 months or so, so it is best I lay low. ROS simply is not what it once was and that is ashame, but I guess it is a sign of the times. Haha, I guess Tommy Boy got out while the going was good. On a personal note, relatives from outside the country are visiting us for Thanks-Giving so I cannot really complain about life in general. I hope things are good in New Jersey. I hope you and your family have a great Thanks-Giving.

RWN- Palin is NO Ronald Reagan. I thought that had been established. Reagan was not polarizing.

Granted Obama may be a very polarizing but he has the advantage as the sitting President. Palin is polarizing and does not have the advantage. It is very hard to unseat and sitting POTUS. There will be many in a general who will opt to pack the HOUSE and the SENATE with conservatives and vote to keep the STATUS QUO in the WH.

Anonymous said...

"It is very hard to unseat and sitting POTUS." Yes, but among other things, tell that to Mr. Carter and the first Mr. Bush.

Running against Obama, Mitt did better than any other Republican potential candidate in all of the following categories:

Republican, Independent, Men, Women (tied), white, black, hispanic (tied), all three age groups, under 50K income, between 50K & 100K (tied) and over 100K income, liberals, moderates, conservatives (tied), no college deg, college degree, Born again/evangelicals, Catholic.

I realize that not all polls show Mitt leading in all of these categories, but I think this does show that Mitt is not nearly as weak (if weak at all) in areas he is believed to be. Not many non Romney people would believe he is currently competitive with tea partiers, conservatives, or born again/evangelicals, but polls show he is just fine.

Just read an article about the above poll.

According to the poll:

" Ms. Palin is viewed the most negatively by the American people of the possible Republican candidates in 2012. She is viewed unfavorable by 51 percent of voters and favorably by 36 percent. Among independents, the key swing voting bloc, she has a negative 54 – 33 percent favorability rating."

Mitt Romney beats Obama in this poll but would lose the primary to Palin.

"So does this spell out a possible Christine O’Donnell/Joe Miller scenario, in which an “outsider” conservative favored by the Tea Party faction pushes out a moderate establishment candidate that stands a much better chance in a general election?"

FOP - FEAR OF PALIN. Her supporters may love her, but there are many in this country her fear a possible Palin presidency and what it could mean for our country.

Her supporters love to compare her to Reagan. Palin is no Ronald Reagan. Palin is Obama but not as articulate.

Anonymous said...

"Palin is Obama but not as articulate." You PDSer lose all credibility when you spout non-sense like this. Time to get a grip folk.

OHIO JOE

Illinoisguy said...

What is a PDSer?

Nonsense ike what OJ? I'm just asking to which remarks you are referring?

Illinoisguy said...

I think when they say she is like Obama, they are referring to the fact that she, like obama, is completely unprepared to be President. Would I rather have her than Obama, you betcha! But, she is not ready, and unless she is prepared to study and get herself ready, she will never be. I think she is good at doing what she is doing now, and hope she sticks with it.

Anonymous said...

Fist of all OHIO JOE, you need to get a grip on reality. The candidate you are promoting is not ready to be POTUS. She may never be ready. The left made the mistake promoting someone who was not ready to lead. Palin quit her job as Governor because she could not handle the stress. She obviously could not handle the stress of being POTUS.

Anonymous said...

"The candidate you are promoting is not ready to be POTUS?" Haha, your candidate is ready?

OHIO JOE

Anonymous said...

Yes Joe He is ready. He understands economics, geography, he handles himself well in interviews and debates. He understands that we don't have allies in North Korea. He knows that South Korea exist. He doesn't make up words. He quotes his sources and does not lie to his readers. His kids don't get in fights on face book. He will not run from interviews with the media. He is not polarizing. He has a resume that reflects that of someone who has proven that he has the ability to FIX things. He has never quit a job and has done a good job where ever he has been. He is very well educated and very well prepared to handle the STRESS of being the POTUS.
