George W. Bush: "Madam Vice President!"

Apparently, the anonymous knuckleheads are at it again.

The 43rd President has told friends the ex-Alaska governor isn't qualified to be President and criticizes Arizona Sen. John McCain for putting Palin on the 2008 GOP ticket and handing her a national platform.

“He thinks McCain ran a lousy campaign with an unqualified running mate and destroyed any chance of winning by picking Palin.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this does not sound at all like something President Bush would say. He's yet to level criticism at the current occupant of the White House, despite Obama's success in "fundamentally transforming America" into something that would have been unthinkable a few short years ago.

A little more than a year ago, a former Bush speech writer made similar assertions about President Bush's feelings regarding Palin.

"Latimer writes in a new book - scheduled for release in October - that Bush wasn't even aware of Palin when she was picked.

"'What is she, the governor of Guam?'" Bush reportedly asked. Latimer also writes that Bush told aides that the then-Alaska governor was "not even remotely prepared" for the national stage."
Jason Recher, a former Bush aide who travelled with the President daily for nearly 3 years, was quick to discredit Latimer's nonsensical claims. Some may recognize the name. Recher was a top Palin aide during the 2008 Presidential campaign, and has worked with her extensively over the past two years.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – A former aide to George W. Bush and Sarah Palin is dismissing a claim by onetime Bush speechwriter Matt Latimer that the former president was clueless about Palin when she was tapped as John McCain's running mate last August.

[...]

But Jason Recher, who served as special assistant to President Bush and as a traveling aide to Palin during the campaign, said the former President was well aware of Palin - especially since the two met in person in Alaska just three weeks before Palin was added to the Republican ticket.

During a stopover in Fairbanks on the way to the Beijing Olympics last August, Recher said Bush met with Palin and even made a knowing reference to her rising reputation in the Republican Party.

"The president was fully aware of who Sarah Palin was," Recher told CNN. "Even so much that when he greeted the governor and Todd in Fairbanks during a re-fueling stop on the way to the Beijing Olympics, he threw open his arms and said "Madam Vice President!'"

"He was very aware of her rising-star status and who she was and everything about her, even down to the fact that she recently had given birth to Trig," Recher said.

After Palin became the vice presidential nominee, Recher said the White House loaned out both he and Laura Bush's photographer Shealah Craighead to the McCain campaign to help staff Palin and her family.

Recher said Bush and Palin had a warm relationship and talked multiple times throughout the campaign, including after a large campaign rally near Orlando in September and after the Vice Presidential debate in October.

[...]

I suspect that Bush will be asked about Palin repeatedly over the next few weeks during his book tour. It's likely that another myth perpetuated by an anonymous source is about to be discredited.

Although I agree that this article doesn't name it's source, I don't hear President Bush dennying it.

The only thing you have shown in your post is that at one time BEFORE in a different incident someone who knew Bush said that in a different incident, he didn't believe he said something back then. With this past example, this former Bush aide has a horse in the race being a former aide to Palin as well.

Until Bush denies these statements, they are neither true, NOR FALSE.

My guess is, it was said in a private conversation and was not far fetched. The majority of Americans were upset she quit her job as Governor and also believe she is unqualified to be President.

So anything reported must be taken at face value until proven false? Keep in mind, some of the same journalists will use "anonymous sources" to attempt to discredit Romney is he wins the nomination.

Ann, President Bush has also refused to criticize Obama, does that mean he supports what Obama is doing? give me a break. And I have yet to see an interview where he was even asked about this nonsense.

I would like to think that President Bush still has class and these are either rumors or more crap from the same idiots who are using politico to write hit pieces about Palin.

One more thing, I find it highly unlikely that Bush refuses to criticize Obama but has no problem being bitterly critical of the most powerful voice in his party.

I can almost here the cries from certian quarters already...."There has to be a link between the Anonymous sources and Team Romney. There just has to be!" (Just teasing)

Whether Bush feels this way or not, he'll never admit it publically. Too much of a Texas Gentleman, which is what I like about him

Are the liberal dolts not reading the commentary above? The shots at Palin are ginned up crap by people who are working or going to be working for other candidates for the nomination. The liberal media will megaphone any comments and as we have found out in the last few months.... they just make up out and out lies...
i.e. Vanity Fair... Politico
Tammy Bruce has a good expression and advice for all this garbage...and you would do well to listen to her...
"If it looks like a smear... it is."
None of the smears over the last two years has proven to be true. They have all been lies or fabrications or cut and pasted edits.

There is no way Bush said this. That is not his style. Bush may be a Dem-Lite spendthrift and got us bogged down in two wars, but he is a gentleman who would not have said that.

The piece from Jonathan Martin at Politico was completely false based on all the numerous people coming out and 'refudiating' it.

Politico is merely trying to create a divide between the GOP Establishment and the Tea Party Movement.

If anybody from Bush's camp was really quoted, it was probably Karl Rove.

I don't know if he said it. What makes me doubt it is the comments towards McCain.

If he had said that Palin was not qualified, I would agree with him.

She maybe someday, when she grows up.

I choose to believe it, because I feel the same way!

If he said, I AGREE!

If he didn't, I don't agree.

Bush is the opposite of the Tea party. He’s a Cocktail party Republican. (The old GOP.)

I would only expect him to oppose Palin. Rove will too for months to come.

Out with the old. In with the new.

I'll second zeke's answer:

"If he said it, I AGREE!

If he didn't, I don't agree."

How could The White House loan the campaign staff? Wouldn't that be a conflict of interest? Are you sure that is correct?
