Sacramento deputies had probable cause to arrest the illegal migrant who later murdered a California waitress — but said they couldn’t find him before the deadly ambush.
Indian national Rohit Rohit, 22, executed 38-year-old Shalini Thakur on Tuesday outside a Panera Bread in Sacramento.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said deputies and detectives made at least two attempts to find Rohit after Thakur reported that he had violated a restraining order she obtained against him, but they came up empty.
Thakur said the May 29 order was violated when she believed the man had ordered or delivered groceries to her on July 29.
“If we made contact with him, yeah, I am certain there would have been an arrest,” Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Lt. Amar Gandhi told KCRA. “But again, there was no contact made.”
Deputies also tried to find Rohit at places he was known to frequent. Gandhi acknowledged investigators did not launch a “large-scale manhunt” for the man at the time.
“There’s not going to be a massive, large-scale manhunt for this person,” Gandhi said. “But there is follow-up. There is stuff done.”
The alleged restraining-order violation was considered a lower-level misdemeanor, Gandhi said. Even if Rohit had been arrested, he could have been cited or booked before prosecutors and a judge determined what happened next. --->READ MORE HERE

Shalini Thakur was brutally slain outside of a Panera by a long-time stalker
22-year-old Rohit Rohit approached her and confronted her, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said. Thakur tried to run away, but Rohit shot her multiple times.
After Thakur fell to the ground, the sheriff’s office said Rohit shot Thakur in the head at close range. He fled but then ultimately killed himself during a standoff with Sacramento deputies along eastbound Highway 50 at Watt Avenue.
Sacramento County Sheriff Jim Cooper said deputies were able to track down Rohit within seven minutes using Flock’s camera system.
Oh, not Flock. That’s two progressive violations.
Rohit had been stalking Shalini for a year. ICE could have taken him into custody and deported him, but California Dems, beginning with Gov. Gavin Newsom have passed laws banning law enforcement from cooperating with ICE in any way. So instead he was able to go on stalking her for a year and then kill her --->READ MORE HERE
