US Territory Turned Tropical Maternity Ward Has Produced Thousands of ‘American’ Babies for Parents Living in China; China-Linked Birth Tourism Under Scrutiny as GOP Lawmakers Press Trump Admin for Answers

US territory turned tropical maternity ward has produced thousands of ‘American’ babies for parents living in China:
Pregnant Chinese women have turned a tropical paradise into a maternity ward — pumping out babies who automatically become US citizens daily.
The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), a US territory northeast of Guam in the Pacific Ocean, has been flooded with so-called “birth tourists” since 2009 when then-president Barack Obama introduced a visa-waiver program for Chinese nationals.
China-watchers estimate about 1,000 companies offer birth tourism to the Northern Mariana Islands, other US overseas territories and even the US mainland. They claim a gob-smacking 1.5 million American babies are being raised in China by Chinese parents who’ve participated in birth tourism.
In a March 9 letter to three Trump Cabinet secretaries, Republican lawmakers demanded an accounting on Chinese birth tourism.
“The concern is about these children born to Chinese parents — do the parents have connections to the Chinese Communist Party, which is an adversarial government to the US?” Chris Chmielenski, president of the nonprofit Immigration Accountability Project, told The Post regarding the letter.
“They know there is an industry out there that makes gobs of money to specialize in birth tourism but there is no report from the federal government telling you how many people have been born as a result of this,” he added.
A good chunk of those kids will reach voting age this decade. At age 21 they will be eligible to petition for green cards for parents and siblings, who can then bring along other family members to live in the US.
“It’s not just the voting aspect, it’s the chain migration laws,” said Chmielenski. “If their family could afford the prices charged for this birth tourism scheme, there’s a good chance they can afford a residence in the US. That raises concerns. Most wealthy Chinese nationals tend to have connections to the government there.”
Chain migration refers to the legal process which allows US citizens and lawful residents to sponsor relatives for green cards. According to Migration Policy Institute data, 77 percent of new green card holders in 2024 came in through chain migration. --->READ MORE HERE

China-linked birth tourism under scrutiny as GOP lawmakers press Trump admin for answers:
Republicans press three cabinet secretaries for data on Chinese nationals exploiting Northern Mariana Islands visa programs
House Republicans are pressing the Trump administration for answers over whether China is exploiting U.S. birthright citizenship and visa programs in a U.S. territory to secure long-term influence inside the United States.
In a letter sent Monday to outgoing Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, Reps. Chip Roy, R-Texas, and Tom Tiffany, R-Wis., and 32 other GOP members raise concerns that so-called "birth tourism" and visa-waiver policies in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands could be leveraged by Chinese nationals in ways that present national security risks.
Noem will leave her position at Homeland Security at the end of the month.
"American citizenship is a sacred trust — not a loophole to be exploited," Roy said. "When foreign adversaries like the Chinese Communist Party can leverage birth tourism and visa-less programs to gain influence within our borders, we must restore integrity to our immigration system and defend the sovereignty of our Republic."
Tiffany argued that "Communist China has exploited ‘birth tourism’ by sending women to the Northern Mariana Islands solely to give birth and secure U.S. citizenship for their children," adding that "it is time to close this loophole, end the abuse, and protect our national security."
A Chinese embassy spokesperson told Fox News Digital in response: "The accusations are groundless and politically motivated. The Chinese side firmly opposes them."
The Northern Mariana Islands is a U.S. territory in the Pacific, and like births in any U.S. state, children born there are granted American citizenship under the 14th Amendment, even though the territory operates under certain distinct immigration rules.
The lawmakers cite reports estimating that between 750,000 and 1.5 million Chinese nationals have obtained U.S. citizenship through birthright policies and birth tourism, though federal agencies have not publicly confirmed those figures.
In their letter, Roy and Tiffany ask the Departments of Homeland Security, State and Interior to provide data on how many children have been born since 2009 to at least one Chinese national parent, how many have reached voting age and how many are registered to vote in the United States. --->READ MORE HERE
