Sen Rand Paul (R-KY) responds to a Courier-Journal editorial that he felt put him in a bad light

In an editorial published on Jan. 27, the Louisville Courier-Journal complained that I don’t present a balanced view of Kentucky values. I disagree.
Though I am a Republican, I make my decisions based on issues, not party. I break with my party often when I don’t agree and I am never afraid to stand up for what’s right.
I have supported the president publicly in his call to end the Afghanistan War, while many in my party favor perpetual war. I fought against warrantless searches and indefinite detention alongside Democrats and a handful of Republicans, and against the establishment of both parties.
I worked with Gov. Steve Beshear, a Democrat, to ask the president for a waiver to federal education mandates to give Kentucky more freedom to improve our schools.
