Quote Of The Day - Mitt Romney: "I Was A Severely Conservative Republican Governor"

Really, Mitt? "Severely?" I think you're trying too hard to convince us that you're anything but a centrist at best.

Who uses the word "severely" to describe their political views? It comes off sounding like some type of medical condition. That line could not have been crafted by one of his high paid speech writers...could it?

According to Thesaurus.com, here is what the word "severely" means...

Definition: harshly

Synonyms: acutely, badly, critically, dangerously, extremely, gravely, hard, hardly, painfully, rigorously, roughly, sharply, sorely

After hearing this brilliantly crafted line, this is the word that popped into my head.

  1. Oh come on..you have taken this completely out of context..it fit in just fine with the whole paragraph..

BTW, this is typical of the hyper critical crap that the ABR people are famous for.

I thought it was a good speech and judging from the standing ovations I was not the only one.

  2. Since being anally retentive is the order of the day..if you go to dictionary.com..severely can also mean grave or stern or serious..but Romney used this word deliberately to convey a sense of seriousness.

  3. All of the above sounds good to me, RW.

All the fuss is pretty funny though, considering Rick's many gaffes.

  5. President Obama would never use the word, "Severely".

  6. Well if people say Mitt is not Conservative enough because they have hidden agenda like bigotry. Then the Republicans woulds be so divided. Lets face it we have a huge problem. Mitt fits all the criteria needed to save this Country but save The Soul of this country.. To the people that are still blind to this, this means they are guilty and will be held accountable by their creator for lying to themselves and not sticking to the truth..

  7. He obviously meant gravely, indicating the truth of his valiant efforts in MA. Romney'actions were very conservative against pressure and great opposition. Few will ever come at all close to Romney's valiant efforts in the conservative struggle. And you don't even seem to listen very well. Why do you believe the media industry now when 4 years ago they said Romney was conservative? Were they lying to us then or now? People need to care that the media misrepresented Obama and never vetted him, that is how we got in such a mess. We ought to ignore the flip-flopping media now to save our nation. It is vital.

  8. Dork: a person who tends to look odd. "If you make me wear that, I'll look like a total dork!" I am positive that you look more like a total dork than the rich, handsome, athletic and extremely coordinated Romney.

  9. Definition of a dork: Rick Santorum. Nothing personal, Rickster.

  10. You are trying a little too hard to persecute Romney, overtime.

  11. RW: @ppppolls PublicPolicyPolling We're going to have our new national GOP poll, showing a pretty healthy Santorum lead, out tomorrow morning

RW: @ppppolls PublicPolicyPolling Santorum topping Romney on the first night of our Michigan poll. This may be the biggest surge yet

  12. The emphasis should be on the "nut" part of your name. You sound exactly like a Leftist.

  14. "Fox News Poll: Romney does best against Obama" READ IT AND WEEP Don't be so juvenile, and quit sulking. You strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel (sweater vest that is). Talk about a dork?

    ReplyDelete
  15. PPP..I bet they do and they are happy about it no doubt...oh goody they say Obama might get to go up against the angry dork.

We have been through this before..let's just wait and see.

  16. As for Michigan...Santorum has been a creature of the unions, that is for sure....but I would have to see some more polls to give up on Michigan for Romney..remember how quickly those polls changed before Florida..Gingrich won SC and then jumped up to a lead and then SPLAT.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I hear a very large SPLAT coming

  18. RWN:

Go to democraticunderground.com/1002296390 and read the comments..it seems you are not the only rooting for Santorum.

  19. Mitt Romney's past accomplishments, business acumen, and formal education hardly qualify him as a dork, no disrespect. Like those before him, Santorum's bump in the polls will be short-lived. No other candidate can match the leadership qualities that Romney brings to the game.

  20. Look it up in the dictionary, as my dad used to tell me when I didn’t know the meaning of a word:

“But I was a SEVERELY conservative Republican governor.” —Mitt Romney, CPAC (2/10/2012)

SEVERE,* adj. (2) “Marked by or requiring strict adherence to rigorous standards or high principles.” —severely, adv.

SEVERE,** adj. (II) “Conforming to a rigorous standard;” —severely, adv.
“4.a. Extremely strict in matters of conduct or behaviour; rigorous in self-discipline and self-restraint; austere with oneself; shunning laxity or self-pleasing.”
“4.b. Of habits, etc.: Dictated by strict and austere principles of living.”
“5.a. Of intellectual operations, thought, etc.: Conforming to an exacting standard of mental effort; rigidly exact or accurate; grave, serious, not light or recreative; not shrinking from what is toilsome or difficult.”

*From “The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language.” Fourth edition, 2000.
**From “The Oxford English Dictionary.” Second edition, 1989; online version December 2011.

  21. It's amazing how differently dictionary.com defines "severely."

1.harsh; unnecessarily extreme: severe criticism; severe laws.

2.serious or stern in manner or appearance: a severe face.

    3.grave; critical: a severe illness.

4.rigidly restrained in style, taste, manner, etc.; simple, plain, or austere.

5.causing discomfort or distress by extreme character or conditions, as weather, cold, or heat; unpleasantly violent, as rain or wind, or a blow or shock.

  22. Anyway, man without a name, let me ask you this...would you advise Mitt to continue to use hat line on the trail? :)

  23. RWN:

The very fact that you would make an issue of something so trivial just shows the world how petty you can be.

    ReplyDelete
  24. While we are on the subject..what would be the best way for Rick to say I suck as a candidate but these desperate brainwashed people are ready to vote for me anyway out of spite?

I don;t get it..his voting record sucks, the last time he went up against a Democrat he got his ass handed to him and he supported Specter over Toomey and then Specter switched parties..geez..if Romney did any of that people like you would call him a POS.

    ReplyDelete
  25. If Rick sucks, and is still beating the man with all the money, organization, and endorsements...WHAT DOES THAT SAY ABOUT MITT?

They all suck to some degree, but conservatives have decided to consolidate around the candidate who sucks the least.

    ReplyDelete
  26. RW, if you don't understand the difference between Dictionary.com and the Oxford English Dictionary, there's really nothing more I can say.

    Severely conservatively yours,
    A Troll

    ReplyDelete
  27. RWN:

What does it say? Well for one thing...all of these people have been in lead, some of them more than once..but it also tells you that there is a reason people have called the Republican party the stupid party from time to time.

For one thing, entertainers have taken the place of real commentators in the conservative media and people have become dependent on them for guidance..and these folks have their own agenda and that agenda is about benefiting themselves, not the Republican party or the United States of America..I think they either want Obama to win a second term or they want a brokered convention..either way they get to be big fish in that pond. Screw the rest of us.

    ReplyDelete
  28. And yes, Santorum sucks..if he did not suck you guys would have been singing his praises months ago.

    ReplyDelete
  29. And how do you know conservatives have decided to stick to Santorum? They were sticking to Newt a couple of weeks ago. And btw, it takes more than conservatives to win a national election...I assume you know that..or do you just not care?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Rightwinger is a liberal Minnesota Democrat. He probably was pushing for Palin because he knew Palin would lose to Obama and he is doing the same with Santorum.

I find it funny that RW has the immediate results of left wing polls and always debates with leftwing talking points.

My neighbor is a left wing troll. She was one of the Dems in MN that promoted the 3rd party candidate to ensure a victory for the liberal Democrat.

RW-didn't you suggest the other day in starting a movement of ABR people to vote for Ron Paul in Virginia. This is right out of the DNC playbook.

    ReplyDelete
  31. leighrow,

    shhhhh....

    Don't blow my cover. ;)

  32. "RW-didn't you suggest the other day in starting a movement of ABR people to vote for Ron Paul in Virginia. This is right out of the DNC playbook." Ah, so now you guys do not like Dr. Paul again. I knew it.

  33. Great post RW, it is entertaining to see the meltdown in the Romney camp, I did believe it would happen so fast. We have Mr. Gingrichites and Romneyites melting down together in the same week. What pair of characters.

    ReplyDelete
  34. HaHaHaHa!

Here's a question for RWN and OJ,

When Romney wins the next 4 contests in a row, will you still be supporting Ricky? or will you launch a draft Sarah movement?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I am not so sure Mr. Romney will win the next 4 in a row, but yes he will eventually win something. I wish Mrs. Palin or at least somebody else like Mr. J. Bush would have ran, but they did not. We cannot change what happened. Either Mr. Romney, Mr. Gingrich or even Mr. Santorum will win the brokerage convention. As nice as it would be to have another choice, it unfortunately won't happen, but hey.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ohio Joe..I don't know if Romney will win the next four or not..but he has a lot better of chance of winning more of these states, because at least he was able to get it together and get himself on the ballot..which is more than be said for the new heart throb Santorum or Gingrich...and Sarah Palin would not have had a chance..Bush, maybe.

    ReplyDelete
  37. And what meltdown? Romney is still the man to beat..he still has the most delegates and the most votes..what Santorum has is a lot of ABR people who would vote for any unprincipled and unelectable moron who happened to be running against Romney..in other words, he has the spite vote.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Terrye,

You're right... with all that stiff competition for the ABR spot(Newt, Rick, Herman, Rick P), Palin would have never gotten off the ground. Right. Even the most anti-Palin people on this site would disagree with you on that one.

    ReplyDelete
  39. "Romney is still the man to beat" True, but that has not prevented you guys from throwing fits and melting down.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Ohio JOE (at 9:09 am), "but yes [Romney] will eventually win something."

Are you suffering from short-term memory loss? Romney has ALREADY WON New Hampshire, Florida, and Nevada (all by big margins). He virtually tied Santorum in Iowa (a state where Santorum had spent nearly 100% of his time).

These are the plain facts, however inconvenient they are to your fantasy narrative.

    ReplyDelete
  41. "Romney has ALREADY WON New Hampshire, Florida, and Nevada (all by big margins)." Hello, earth anon. Where did I say that Mr. Romney did not win those particular states?
