Huckabee, Mr. Life Purity, just advocated dropping the riders in the Budget Bill that would defund Planned Parenthood.
In an interview Friday on Fox Business Network, the potential 2012 presidential hopeful said the GOP should avoid a shutdown at all costs "because the consequences of that are going to hurt the Republicans, not the Democrats."
"Nobody's more pro-life than me. Nobody," Huckabee said. "But as much as I want to see Planned Parenthood defunded, as much as I want to see NPR lose their funding, the reality is the president and the Senate are never gonna go along with that. So win the deal you can win and live to fight another day."
How is it that he gets away with this? Daniels, who has a 100% pro-life record got blasted by Mr. Life for calling for a truce. But Huckabee is actually calling for a truce. Huckabee, you big, fat, hypocrite! He gets away with it because he used to be a Baptist minister and is therefore above reproach with the life crowd. No way would Palin, Romney, Christie, Daniels, or even Pawlenty get away with this. Where is your outrage Huck's Army? Texas Conservative? Don't all of you believe in taking no prisoners, making no deals or compromises?
If Romney made a statement like this, the Huckanuts would be calling him a closeted baby-killer.

ReplyDeletePerhaps Palin should guest host on Red Eye and do a spoof of Huckabee, similar to what Huck did to Palin ("Palin is a crackhead") after she hed the nerve to suggest that law enforcement have better things to do than go after some guy for smoking a joint in his own home. It could be called, "Huck the baby-killer." Hey, it's just a joke. It's a comedy show afterall.

ReplyDeletePP does a whole lot more than abortions. They also provide low cost cancer screenings. (which is the bulk of their business, along with family planning).

Great statistic RW. How can any Huck supporter now believe that Huck would actually fight to reduce abortions? This is strikingly similar to that video of Huckabee as governor begging the Arkansas legislature to raise taxes, any taxes, please, just give us more taxes.

To me, the issue here is not so much whether or not he is offering good advice. The issue is the hypocrisy of the man.
ReplyDeleteTen months ago, he was castigating Mitch Daniels for suggesting a truce on social issues in order to tackle fiscal issues. Huckabee self-righteously proclaimed that it was a morale issue, not a political issue. He sanctimoniously pronounced in his HuckPAC blog that life was not a bargaining chip.
Yet here he is today advocating for the same thing. In fact, he even couches it in language of giving up the Life chip in order to gain political power in 2012.
You guys know I have my problems with Sarah Palin. But for the life of me, I cannot imagine her ever making a statement even suggesting such a thing. I may not think her up to being President, but the woman has my respect.
Huckabee? The man continues to prove that he's a weasel. He just can't seem to help it.
Yes, Mr. Daniels and Mr. Huckabee are both disgusting. It the case of Mr. Daniels ignorance is probably at play, but Mr. Huckabee should know better.

ReplyDeleteI didn't say whether it was a good idea or not, just gave my theory for his promotion of it. Whenever someone questions him on his record, he can quickly spin it into a conversation about the Fair Tax.
I'm not sold on the shutdown. The left has been able to make it look as if Republicans are making this debate about social issues rather than fiscal. (yes I know funding PP is a fiscal issue.) That will not help us in the long run. PP funding should be dealt with later.

Tell the Democrats to deal with it later then. This is Pablo's tactic, blame the Conservative first. You have your head stuck in the sand if you think Conservatives are going to forgive the GOP for caving now.
